Falkirk FC received the coveted Gold Award in the Armed Forces Covenant employer recognition scheme during a ceremony at the Black Watch Museum in Perth on Thursday 14 November.
Former Falkirk fans’ director and current boardroom host Murray McIntyre, 90, accepted the award on behalf of the club from Major General Robin Lindsay, Colonel of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
A Falkirk diehard since the 1940s, Murray undertook his National Service in the RAF as a young man in the early 1950s.
The award recognises employers for their commitment to supporting veterans and reservists in the workplace by being powerful advocates for the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
Falkirk Chief Executive Officer Jamie Swinney said: “The Club has a proud history and tradition with regards to supporting the Armed Forces. We achieved Silver status a few years ago and supported our Foundation to reach Silver more recently. It was an ambition of the Club to reach the highest standard, which I am delighted we have now achieved with the Gold Award. Falkirk FC will continue to pay tribute to Armed Forces personnel and Veterans as well as maintaining and, where possible, increasing our support to those within our area as it is an important part of our history and tradition.”
