Falkirk Football Club can confirm that Barney Stewart has joined EFL Championship side West Bromwich Albion on a permanent transfer after the clubs agreed terms on a club record fee, with the potential for significant add-ons.
His story has been an incredible one. From playing university football in 2024, to finishing as Falkirk’s top scorer in the Scottish Premiership, helping the Bairns secure a top six finish after 15 years out of the top-flight, it has been a meteoric rise.
Barney joined Falkirk in 2024 from Heriot-Watt University, where he returned on loan until January 2025. Following his return to Falkirk in January, Barney contributed to the Bairns’ Championship title winning campaign with four goal involvements.
The following season, as Falkirk returned to the Premiership, Barney went out on loan to a Championship side to continue his development. He hit the ground running at East End Park, scoring eight goals in 12 appearances.
After being recalled in January, Barney continued his red-hot form in the Premiership, announcing himself in the top-flight with a hat-trick against Hibernian. The striker went on to score another seven times, including crucial goals against Aberdeen and Motherwell, as well as one against Dundee United in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.
During his time with Falkirk Barney became a fan favourite, not just for his ability on the pitch, but also for his personality off it. His energy, positivity, and enthusiasm were infectious, making him a well liked and important member of what is an extremely tight-knit dressing room.
Barney leaves with the best wishes of everyone at Falkirk Football Club. We wish him the very best of luck in the next stage of what we all believe will be a very successful career.
