MATCH REPORT: FALKIRK 0-0 MOTHERWELL

It ended goalless at The Falkirk Stadium as a scrappy game saw spoils shared. McGlynn’s side earned a third clean sheet in a row and sit sixth in the table after a diligent display.

It was a hard fought point for both sides who put everything into the game.

The first real chance came the way of the hosts when Finn Yeats cushioned a header into Agyeman, who had found himself in a nice pocket of space down the right flank. His effort flashed just wide of the far post in what was a promising start for Falkirk.

The rest of the opening twenty minutes were incredibly cagey with both sides patiently waiting for an opening. Falkirk were strong in nullifying Motherwell’s rapid possession-based style of play, which has brought them success in recent weeks, limiting the visitors to very little goal-mouth action.

The Bairns were next to fashion an opportunity with Agyeman as the architect. He drove into an open space down the right wing before searching for Samuel-Ogunsuyi with a curling cross, which was just too far ahead of the fully-stretched striker.

The Steelmen then came close through Longelo when he worked his way into the box from a wide position before unleashing an effort towards goal. His strike clattered the post from a tight angle and, despite not posing much of a threat to Bain, it was the visitors’ best chance in what was an extremely tight first half.

Motherwell came out swinging in the second half and blew a huge opportunity to take the lead just a few seconds after the restart. Maswanhise latched on to a long ball before turning back on his left with a neat flick, his strike should have opened the scoring however, he didn’t quite catch it right and was denied by Bain.

The visitors continued to ramp up the pressure. A well-worked triangle of passes freed Sparrow on the right, he then fizzed a dangerous ball across the six-yard box which took a deflection of Filip Lissah. Bain came up with another excellent save though, and the scores remained level.

Falkirk recovered well after the early onslaught of chances and pushed back with an audacious attempt of their own. Brad Spencer tried to trick the keeper with a free kick from the half way line, but his shot flew just wide of the top left corner.

It returned to being a cagey affair after that attempt as the sides totally cancelled each other out, prompting a number of changes from both managers.

Ethan Williams was one of the Falkirk introductions who would make a difference as he picked up the ball on the edge of the area, his strike from distance swerved wide of the top corner though and it remained goalless with fifteen to play.

The closing stages became very scrappy with fouls coming thick and fast. Brad Spencer managed to fashion a strike from distance as the game entered extra time, but it soared over and it ended all-square.
