The next stop on the William Hill Championship line is Airdrie, as the Bairns face Airdrieonians on matchday five.
Kick-off is at 3pm, Saturday 14th September. This weekend we return to Championship action after a disappointing exit from the SPFL Trust Trophy.
It just wasn’t our day last Saturday as, despite hitting the woodwork on a couple of occasions and creating a number of clear-cut chances, Stenhousemuir went on to win via penalty shootout. After Liam Henderson saw red, and going a goal down thanks to a Blair Alston penalty, Calvin Miller gave The Bairns hope with a fantastic free-kick with a few minutes left to play. Unfortunately, The Warriors scored all five of their penalties to Falkirk’s four. It was only our second competitive defeat of the season, and our third since February. We still remain unbeaten in 42 league games, however, and will be looking to extend that to 43 this Saturday.
Despite a successful campaign last season, Airdrieonians haven’t had the best of starts to the 2024/25 season. Following on from a good Premier Sports Cup group stage where they won all but one of their games, Airdrie have won just a single game in the Championship, a 1-0 win against Raith Rovers on the opening day. Since then, Rhys McCabe’s side have suffered a heavy defeat from Ayr United, a 2-0 loss to Queen’s Park and a draw against Hamilton Academical. Airdrieonians are going into Saturday’s game with a win behind them though, having put three past Queen of the South in the SPFL Trust Trophy. In the league, they sit seventh with four points, eight behind Falkirk.
