There’s another diversion from the league this Sunday as the navy blue train heads to Glasgow, where we take on Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup.
Kick-off is at 3pm, Sunday 22nd September.On Sunday we face our toughest opponent yet this season as we meet Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup quarter finals.
The Premiership champions of the last three seasons have started their 2024/25 campaign as you would expect, with a 100% win record and have scored at least two goals in each of their games. A 3-1 win at home to Hibernian in the last round of the cup saw them progress to Sunday’s quarter final. A brace from Daizen Maeda in that game saw the hosts go two goals ahead within the opening 15 minutes. The visitors pulled one back through Mykola Kukharevych, but a Nicolas Kuhn strike in the 56th minute secured Celtic’s spot in the next round.
More recently, Celtic’s form has continued with two massive wins. Last week, against Hearts, and a comprehensive 3-0 Old Firm win the weekend before.
Celtic are perhaps the only team in the country more in-form than Falkirk at the moment. The Bairns go into the weekend’s game having banished their demons from the season before last with a dominant win against Airdrieonians at the Albert Bartlett Stadium. It was two going on 10 as Falkirk took the game to the home side, rattling the frame of the goal on four occasions. It was starting to feel like the ball would never go in the net, until Dylan Tait took matters into his own hands in the 72nd minute. The ball broke to him after being cleared from the box, and the midfielder beat his man before curling an effort into the top corner from 20 yards. Just like buses, another came along just seven minutes later and Tait, again, was at the heart of it, sliding Sean Mackie in after some nice passing play. The left-back made no mistake, slotting home with a low shot across goal to put the game to bed. The win took Falkirk’s unbeaten league record to an incredible 43 games and sent them top of the Championship with a game in hand.
