After a run of three home games, the Navy Blue Train departs for Greenock this Friday as we take on Greenock Morton in the William Hill Championship, live on BBC Scotland.
Kick-off is at 7:45pm, Friday 21st February. This weekend we play our 25th televised game of the McGlynn & Smith era as we take on Greenock Morton away from home in the William Hill Championship.
The Bairns face their first away trip since January, following a run of three massive home games against second, third and fourth.
We came away with four points from that tough run, but remain top of the table after a hard-fought draw with second placed Ayr United.
Falkirk were hoping for a win, as three points would extend their lead at the top of the table to five points. A tough task to begin with, it was made even tougher when we found ourselves two goals down after 38 minutes. The first came from the penalty spot after Scott McMann was brought down by Keelan Adams in the box. Jay Henderson converted the penalty for his seventh league goal of the season.
The second came after the ball was given away in midfield. The visitors countered quickly, resulting in George Oakley tapping home after an effort rebounded off the post. The Bairns looked to be going into the break with a mountain to climb, but their ascent was made a bit easier with a crucial goal in the 45th minute. Liam Henderson was the man to get it, as he towered above everyone else to meet Calvin Miller’s corner kick. Ayr goalkeeper, Harry Stone, managed to get a hand to it, but the headed effort was to powerful and ended up in the back of the net.
The Bairns came out for the second half looking the much better side, and looked dangerous as they hunted down the equaliser. It finally came in the 62nd minute, and it was none other than Scott Arfield with the goal. A great run from substitute Barney Stewart saw him beat the defender with a chop inside, before firing a left-footed effort at goal. The ‘keeper could only parry the powerful strike, and Arfield was in the right place at the right time to put the ball into the net.
The Bairns had the momentum and created a number of chances, desperately looking for the winner. Despite banging on the door for the remainder of the game, it never opened, and the points were shared.
Greenock Morton are currently on an 11 game unbeaten run in the league and, as a result, are closing in on a play-off spot. Morton currently sit fifth, just five points behind Partick Thistle, and will be looking to close the gap.
Dougie Imrie’s side broke their run of two without a win when they played Hamilton Academical on Tuesday night. The Ton have scored at least two goals in each of their last eight out of ten games, and Tuesday night was no different. New signing Tomi Adeloye opened the scoring on his first start for his new club, heading home from a corner in the 28th minute. The next goal came in the 79th minute, as Aaron Lyall extended Morton’s lead, securing the three points.
