The Navy Blue train comes to a stop at The Falkirk Stadium this Friday, as we play our final game of the William Hill Championship season.The final game of the season is upon us, and it all comes down to Friday night’s game against Hamilton Academical.
As The Bairns and Livingston sit level, with 70 points apiece, Falkirk need to match or better Livingston’s result this Friday to secure the league title.
Falkirk’s form has take a dip, and go into Friday’s game having lost their last two and failing to win in their last three. A win last Friday against Partick Thistle would have all but secured the league title, but things didn’t go to plan at Firhill. The home side took the lead after six minutes, when Brian Graham took full advantage of a defensive mishap. The Bairns pushed hard for the equaliser, coming close on a number of occasions. Their job was made a bit easier in the 35th minute when Stuart Bannigan was sent off for a second bookable offence after kicking Dylan Tait.
The goal came four minutes later. It was an excellently worked goal, as Ross MacIver laid the ball off to Arfield with his chest from a cross, and our number 37 found the back of the net with a great strike from the edge of the box.
For the remainder of the game, The Bairns struggled to create many chances despite having an extra man, and ended up losing their man advantage in the 83rd minute, when referee Mattthew McDermid made the bizarre decision to send off Alfredo Agyeman for winning the ball cleanly with a tackle.
Partick Thistle saw the opportunity to throw men forward now it was 10v10, and ended up winning a free kick in a dangerous area deep into injury time. The ball was sent into the box, helped forward by Dan O’Reilly, and headed into the back of the net by Terry Ablade, as the home side stole all three points in the seventh minute of injury time.
Our visitors this Friday, Hamilton Accies, are without a win in two. They find themselves eight points adrift at the bottom of the table after receiving a 15 point deduction for breaching league rules. John Rankin’s side now find themselves facing certain relegation should their appeal be unsuccessful. Since their points deduction, Accies have drawn at home to Queen’s Park and lost at home to Livingston.
