NEXT STOP: RAITH ROVERS (H)

The Navy Blue Train returns to The Falkirk Stadium this weekend as we take on Raith Rovers in the William Hill Championship

Kick-off is at 3pm, Saturday 19th April.

The Bairns return home on Saturday to host Raith Rovers in the first of our remaining three Championship fixtures this season. It could be a special day for Falkirk, who can secure the league title with a win, depending on Livingston’s result on Friday.

John McGlynn’s side head into the next game on the back of a stalemate in Ayr last Friday night. It was an exciting, end-to-end game, and despite Ayr creating the better chances in the first half, it was Falkirk who opened the scoring and it was a strong contended for Goal of the Season. With a minute left to play of the first 45 minutes, Keelan Adams’ cross was headed clear by an Ayr defender, but only as far as Sean Mackie. The ball sat perfectly for the left back, who drilled an outrageous volley into the bottom corner with the outside of his boot from outside the box.

Another exciting half of football followed, and it looked as though Falkirk were on course to take all three points. Honest Men substitute Ethan Walker had other ideas though. The forward managed to get on the end of McAllister’s cross to poke home at the near post in the 90th minute, rescuing a point for his side.

The Bairns remain top of the league with 70 points, six clear of Livingston. A draw for Ayr means they sit five points behind Livingston, with nine points left to play for.

Our visitors this Saturday have put an impressive run of results together in their hunt for the play-offs. Barry Robson’s side made it seven unbeaten in the league after their draw with Airdrieonians last weekend.

Raith were hoping to make it three wins in a row after excellent results against Hamilton and Ayr United, but were facing an Airdrieonians side who had only lost one of their last five games.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring at Stark’s Park after 19 minutes. A quick move saw the ball find its way to the feet of Ricco Diack who tried to sidestep Ross Mathews at the edge of the Raith penalty area. The midfielder managed to get a tackle in, but the ball bounced favourably for Chris Mochrie, whose first-time half volley effort found the bottom corner.

The hosts managed to draw themselves level before the break, though, scoring the equaliser in the 41st minute. A turnover in midfield saw the home side counter quickly, with the ball making its way to Josh Mullin on the right wing. His cross into the box was inch perfect, finding the head of Jamie Gullan, who made no mistake.

Despite only taking a point, it was another step closer to the play-offs for Raith, who are now just two points behind fourth placed Partick Thistle.
