MATCH PREVIEW
The Navy Blue Train departs the Falkirk Stadium for the first time this league campaign as we head to Dunfermline in our second Championship match of the season.
This is the fixture that fans of both teams look out for when the fixtures are released, and this season we’re treated to our first derby match just two weeks into the league season.
Falkirk began their Championship campaign last Friday when we hosted Queen’s Park at The Falkirk Stadium. It was a special occasion as we raised our League Champions Flag ahead of kick-off in front of over 5,000 Bairns fans. The team, completely unfazed by the change to a more competitive league, picked up where they left off last season, continuing their incredible form with an opening day win.
The Bairns went at Queen’s Park straight from the off, looking the better side in the opening 45 minutes. After threatening a few times, Falkirk managed to take the lead in the 33rd minute when Ross MacIver’s attempt was pushed into the path of Calvin Miller by Queen’s goalkeeper Calum Ferrie. Calvin made no mistake with his finish from a tight angle to open his and Falkirk’s account for the season.
Falkirk kept their lead going into the break but found themselves back on level terms less than a minute after the second half kicked off when Dom Thomas cut inside from the right and curled a tremendous strike past Nicky Hogarth and into the top corner off the post.
The reply was instant though, as Sean Mackie found himself in the right place at the right time to slot the ball home after it fell kindly for him six yards from goal, making it two goals in three games for the left back.
While Falkirk have enjoyed a successful Premier Sports Cup group stage and league opener, Dunfermline have not. The Pars have lost four games in a row, losing to Forfar Athletic, Livingston and Cove Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup, before suffering a two-nil defeat to Livingston on the opening day of the season.
With the Navy Blue Train carrying all the momentum, it’s shaping up to be an exciting encounter.
