Next up for The Bairns is the first of five away games in a row as the Navy Blue Train departs for Greenock this Saturday, where we’ll face Greenock Morton.
Kick-off is at 3pm, Saturday 31st August at Cappielow Park. This Saturday The Bairns return to Cappielow for the first time since 2022 when the two sides met in the League Cup group stages. The game finished a goal apiece, with Liam Henderson scoring for Falkirk, sending the game to a penalty shoot-out for the bonus point. Former Bairn Jaze Kabia missed for the home side allowing Brad McKay to score the winning penalty for the extra point.
This weekend is a different story as we face them in league action for the first time since 2019, the last time both sides were in the Championship. The Bairns suffered defeat that day with former Falkirk midfielder Charlie Telfer scoring and assisting. This time The Bairns will be confident of getting a result following their tremendous start to the season.
With three wins from three in the league and a dominant win against Heart of Midlothian in the Premier Sports Cup, Falkirk have all the momentum and go into the match as one of the most in-form sides in the league. Last Saturday saw Falkirk earn another three points against a resilient Partick Thistle side. The visitors went down to 10-men after 25 minutes when Ben Stanway was shown a second yellow for simulation and, as a result, had to defend for the rest of the game. Falkirk kept knocking on the door and their persistence paid off in the 58th minute when Liam Henderson took things into his own hands, unleashing a strike from 25-yards that flew into the top corner. A goal of the season contender already. Thistle, despite being a man down and having been subjected to constant pressure, managed to score an equalising goal in the 76th minute. Terry Ablade finished off a counter attack to get his side back in the game, and it was a goal that prompted the visitors to go all out for the win. Falkirk needed a spark to start a fire, and they got just that when Brad Spencer rocketed home a Keelan Adams cut-back with seven minutes left to play.
While Greenock Morton are yet to pick up a win, they have also yet to lose a league match. Dougie Imrie’s side have drawn each of their first three league games, scoring one and conceding one, both in the same game against Livingston. They sit sixth in the standings with three points and will be looking to claim their first win of the season.
