Next up for The Bairns is a trip to Fir Park as we take on Motherwell in Matchday Two of the William Hill Premiership this Sunday.
Falkirk didn’t get off to the start they were hoping for in last weekend’s Premiership opener. After a disappointing Premier Sports Cup group stage, The Bairns were hoping to bounce back from their early cup exit with a good result against St Mirren to kick-off the new campaign.
Things didn’t go as planned at The Falkirk Stadium, as the hosts took the lead after 11 minutes when Killian Phillips managed to squeeze the ball into the net at the near post after Henry Fieldson’s cross in from the left.
Falkirk pushed for an equaliser, creating a few chances but not managing to put any of them away. St Mirren also came close on a few occasions, hitting The Bairns on the counter, but good defending prevented the hosts’ lead being doubled.
The home side thought they has equalised in the 70th minute when Ben Parkinson tucked the ball home with his first touch of the ball after coming on as a substitute. A lengthy VAR check followed and the goal was eventually chalked off for a handball in the build up.
Falkirk pushed hard for an equaliser, throwing players forward to get something from the game. The visitors capitalised on the lack of bodies defending, launching a counter-attack in the 87th minute following a Falkirk corner. The ball eventually arrived at the feet of Killian Phillips whose shot deflected off Leon McCann as he desperately slid in to try and block the effort. The ball rolled just out of reach of Scott Bain and into the net to seal the win for St Mirren.
The two sides now sit at opposite ends of the table, with St Mirren top and Falkirk bottom after Matchday One.
Our hosts this weekend have enjoyed a good start to their season. Following on from an unexpectedly successful 2025/26 season, Motherwell, off the back of progressing to the next round of UEFA Conference League qualifiers, got their Premiership campaign off to a winning start.
The Steelmen travelled to Edinburgh to face Hibernian at Easter Road on Sunday and carried on their good form from last season. It was the visitors who opened the scoring when Lukas Fadinger converted from the penalty spot in the 40th minute.
They didn’t hold their lead for long though, with the hosts responding like for like, with a penalty kick of their own. Martin Boyle stepped up and equalised for Hibs.
The game looked to be heading towards a draw until Motherwell turned on the style with five minutes left to play. A quick, free-flowing counter attack ended in Ibrahim Said slotting the ball past Sallinger in the Hibs goal top steal all three points late on.
