We prepare to play our first home fixture since the opening weekend as we welcome Rangers to The Falkirk Stadium in a midweek game, live on Sky Sports. After falling to a narrow defeat against Celtic in Parkhead last Saturday, we will be aiming to bounce back and get a result against their biggest rivals.
No teams ever have it easy at Celtic Park, but our task was made even harder after conceding an avoidable goal in the fourth minute. When the ball was played over the top for Celtic striker Camilo Duran, Scott Bain looked to have it covered, but the goalkeeper dropped the ball and, in an attempt to keep it from rolling out the box, pushed it back towards Duran who finished into an empty net.
The home side’s tails were up and they pushed hard for a second, forcing Bain into several top class saves to keep The Bairns in the game. Celtic’s new Colombian grabbed his second of the game just before the half hour mark despite Falkirk’s best efforts, beating Liam Henderson to Kieran Tierney’s low ball across the box, following a quick counter, and poking the ball home.
The Bairns looked much better in the second half, seeing more of the ball and working it nicely in some good passages of play. The deficit was halved in the 72nd minute after some direct midfield play set Conor McLeod on a run towards the Celtic goal. The young loanee found Jacob Murrell with a neat pass with the outside of the boot. Celtic goalkeeper Sinisalo failed to deal with the American striker’s first time effort, deflecting the ball off Colby Donovan and into the net.
Falkirk pushed hard for an equalising goal, but the home side managed to see the game out for all three points.
The Bairns now have a quick turnaround to Wednesday, when they go head-to-head with a Rangers side whose form has been inconsistent in the league so far.
Derek McInnes’ side go into Wednesday night’s game having earned their first league win of the season yesterday. They took all three points from Aberdeen at Pittodrie thanks to a Lawrence Shankland penalty in the second half.
Rangers currently sit seventh in the league table, on four points, having lost one, drawn one, and won one, while Falkirk occupy 11th, with two defeats and a draw.
