NEXT UP: STENHOUSEMUIR (A)

Next up for The Bairns is another break from the Championship as we make the short journey to Ochilview to take on Stenhousemuir in the SPFL Trust Trophy.

Kick-off is at 3pm, Saturday 7th September. This Saturday we begin our SPFL Trust Trophy campaign against Stenhousemuir in the third round of the tournament.

Stenhousemuir have had a mixed start to their League 1 campaign, having won three and lost two. The League 2 champions kicked off opening day with a 2-1 win at home against newly relegated Arbroath. Their opening weekend victory was followed up by consecutive defeats away to Kelty Hearts and Alloa. The Warriors head into Saturday’s fixture on the back of two wins however, having beaten both Cove Rangers and Annan Athletic, scoring eight goals in the process, five of which were against Annan. They sit second in League 1 with nine points.

This Saturday will be the second meeting between the two sides this season, the first coming during the Premier Sports Cup group stages when The Bairns won 4-0. The two rivals are still to meet on two more occasions this season with a home and away tie in the Stirlingshire Cup.

Falkirk go into Saturday on a seven game win streak, spanning across all competitions. Last season’s invincibles continued their unbeaten league run on Saturday with a stunning comeback against Greenock Morton. The Bairns found themselves two goals down within 26 minutes after goals from Morton’s centre-backs Morgan Boyes and Jack Baird from set pieces. The momentum shifted on the half-hour mark when Dylan Tait was brought down in the box and Brad Spencer stepped up the convert the penalty kick. 12 minutes later the ma who was brought down scored the equalising goal. Ethan Ross did brilliantly to beat his man on the left wing before rolling the ball through to Tait who calmly slotted home. It was Alfredo Agyeman who completed the comeback. The winger came off the bench in the 68th minute and scored in the 75th to trigger wild scenes in the away end.

Falkirk remain the only Championship team to have a 100% win record after four games, sitting second with 12 points and a game in hand over league leaders Ayr United.
