OBITUARY – JOE WALLACE

Everyone at Falkirk Football Club was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Head Groundsman Joe Wallace.

In 2011, Joe joined Falkirk Football Club as Head Groundsman at The Falkirk Stadium. The pitch was still grass and, at that time, he also maintained the grass pitches at The University of Stirling. What the club didn’t tell him during the application process is that he was also required to be a plumber, electrician and painter & decorator as well as a groundsman. Joe loved taking on these additional responsibilities and thrived in this working environment, developing relationships with colleagues, players, and management – creating friendships that extended for the remainder of his life.

During Joe’s’ time with Falkirk FC, the club experienced both highs and lows but, memorably, the highs were getting to the Scottish Cup Final in 2015 and the invincible League 1 title winning season in 2023/24, in what was his final year at the club.

Joe wasn’t a Falkirk fan when he joined but certainly was by the time he left.

Joe retired from the club in May 2024, his final shift being the day The Bairns achieved their invincible status against Alloa Athletic, lifting the league 1 trophy and securing Championship football for the following season.

As a recognition of his many years of service to the football club, Joe was acknowledged with the club’s Outstanding Contribution Award at the end of the 2023/24 season.

There will be a joint minute’s applause ahead of our game against St Mirren this Saturday in remembrance of Joe and former Chairman Douglas McIntyre.
