Over the past few years,
Falkirk supporters have helped deliver something remarkable.
Together, we have rebuilt our club. Attendances have doubled, season ticket sales are at record levels, the atmosphere at the Falkirk Stadium is better than ever, and the team has earned its place back among Scotland’s elite. At the same time, we’ve re-established our Academy and brought our Women’s team back into the fold.
As a fan-owned club, our success is built on the loyalty, passion and commitment of Falkirk fans. Without that, we would not, and will not, succeed.
As we embark on the 2026 season and our 150th anniversary, we face perhaps the biggest challenge yet.
Following changes to SPFL regulations, we must replace our artificial playing surface with a new hybrid grass pitch in time for the 2027/28 season. As a result, we also need invest in a bespoke training facility so that our players will train on the same surface.
The Pitch Fund has been created with this in mind, to help us achieve our goals and overcome the latest curve-ball thrown at us by Scottish football.
Why Is the Pitch Fund Necessary?
The current artificial pitch is a FIFA Quality Pro surface that was installed in full compliance with league rules at the time. However, changes introduced by the SPFL Premiership clubs in 2024 mean that we can no longer use artificial surfaces beyond the club’s agreed grace period, this season.
The cost of a new hybrid pitch and associated facility improvements is currently estimated at £1,600,000. While the club has already set aside money from the previous two years’ strong trading performance and secured significant advances from future SPFL revenue, there remains a sizeable shortfall that cannot currently be met without impacting our football budget for future seasons.
Quite simply, investing in the future of the club should not come at the expense of continuing progress on the pitch.
The Pitch Fund helps ensure we can do both.
Why It Matters
This is about far more than replacing a playing surface. It is about protecting the momentum that supporters have worked so hard to create.
Every contribution made today helps ensure that progress we achieved in recent seasons is nor reversed. It will also ensure that we can build facilities we can be proud of, that help us attract and develop even better players, and that we have infrastructure fit for top flight football.
A Shared Effort Across the Club
A significant proportion of the project cost will be met directly by the club, drawing on the strong financial foundations that have been built over recent seasons. Revenue generated from successful player trading has not been earmarked for this project. Transfer income is typically received over a number of years and we have used it thus far to support the playing budget, and plan to continue to do so in the future. If we have to fall back on these funds to help to finance the new pitch, the football budget will suffer.
The club has also secured funding against future SPFL income, which will go towards the project. However, this funding will have to be repaid from future SPFL revenue distributions, meaning the less we have to rely on this, the better it will be for the football budget.
Alongside these contributions, the club is working hard in pursuing grant funding and other external sources of investment to help reduce the overall cost.
Supporters are being asked to play an important part in the project, but only as one element in a much broader funding plan. The majority will from club resources and other funding streams but we need our fans to help bridge the gap to give us the best chance of success.
The club’s commercial department is committed to generating additional income through new sponsorship and partnership opportunities, building on the excellent work that already takes place behind the scenes each season.
In addition, a programme of fundraising events will be introduced to boost revenue specifically for the project, hopefully providing entertainment while securing our club’s future.
By sharing the burden of contributions across the club, our partners and our supporters, we can deliver this vital investment together, while continuing to build for the future both on and off the pitch.
