Falkirk Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Ryan Strain, subject to Scottish FA approval.
The 29-year-old right-back joins The Bairns on a one year deal following the expiration of his contract with Dundee United.
Ryan began his senior career in Australia with Adelaide United, making over 80 appearances before moving to Maccabi Haifa in 2021.
He made the switch to Scottish football the following year, joining St Mirren and going on to establish himself as a regular in the Premiership. Ryan spent two seasons in Paisley before signing for Dundee United in the summer of 2024. He made nearly 50 appearances during his time at Tannadice and helped United win the Scottish Championship in 2023/24, before securing a fourth-place Premiership finish and qualification for European football during the 2024/25 season.
Ryan has also represented Australia at senior international level, having made his Socceroos debut in 2022.
Manager John McGlynn said on adding Ryan to his squad:
“I’m delighted to bring in a player of Ryan’s quality and experience. I’ve mentioned in recent interviews that Keelan Adams has had an operation and has approximately another nine weeks of recovery ahead of him, provided there are no setbacks. Jack McMillan is also injured at the moment, so I felt we needed to strengthen in that area.
“Ryan is a proven Premiership player who has performed consistently at this level for both St Mirren and Dundee United. He knows the league inside out, understands exactly what is required and comes in ready to make an immediate impact, so this isn’t a gamble in any way whatsoever.
“He is a very accomplished right-back, both defensively and going forward. He has great energy, uses the ball well and gives us another real attacking threat down that side. Just as importantly, he brings composure, professionalism and a wealth of experience to the group.
“He has also previously played alongside Craig Sibbald and Scott Tanser, so there are familiar faces here for him, and I’m sure that will help him settle in quickly.
“I’m delighted Ryan has agreed to join us. He is a quality addition to the squad, and I’m confident he’ll make a big contribution for us.”
Welcome to Falkirk, Ryan!
