SCOTT ARFIELD RETURNS

Falkirk Football Club is delighted to welcome home Scott Arfield, who returns to the club on a permanent deal after departing Bolton Wanderers, subject to international clearance.

The 36-year-old joins on an initial 6 month deal with a potential further year.

Coming through the Falkirk Academy, Scott first made his debut for the club in the 2007/08 season and played 130 times for The Bairns, scoring 16 goals. Amongst multiple iconic goals, Scott netted a famous penalty at Hampden as a 21-year-old to help John Hughes’ side defeat rivals Dunfermline Athletic 2-0, securing European football for the first time in the club’s history.

After leaving Falkirk for a fee in the six figures, Scott spent three years with Huddersfield Town, making just under 100 appearances, before moving to Burnley with whom he won promotion to the English Premiership. Arfield scored on his Premier League debut for Burnley against Chelsea in the 14th minute of their opening game of the season.

After nearly 200 games with Burnley, the 36-year-old moved back to Scotland where he spent five seasons with the Ibrox side, winning a Premiership title, a Scottish Cup, and making it to the Europa League Final. After leaving Rangers he spent time in America with Charlotte FC before joining Bolton Wanderers, who he has made 12 appearances for this season.

John McGlynn said on securing Scott’s services:

“Scott will be someone known to many, many Falkirk fans. It’s great to get him back here, but it’s not just a bit of sentiment, he’s a really good football player. He’s been keen to return to the club, as soon as we got onto him he showed he was desperate to come back and help give us that push to get to the Premiership.

“I think his experience could be invaluable between now and the end of the season, I’ve heard so many good things about Scott, not only on the pitch but also his character, which will spark in the dressing room as well which is hugely important.

“He’s a winner that has been over the course many times before while playing at the top level, and it’s great for us to be able to attract someone like Scott back to the football club. We look forward to working with him and hopefully he’s going to give us that little bit of magic we need.”

Scott Arfield said on returning to The Falkirk Stadium:

“I’ve got really fond memories of my first time at the club; it was the first appearances of my career, and I was given my first opportunities to play. Coming back to Falkirk is something I’ve always had as a goal in football, in whatever circumstances I could help the club.

“I always thought that would be in the Premiership, but it’s an incredible challenge we’ve got, and what a reward there could be at the end of the season. This club should be in the Premiership, and our goal this season is to get up there.
