UP NEXT: DUNDEE UNITED (H)

Three months on from lifting the William Hill Championship trophy, league football returns to The Falkirk Stadium as we kick-off our Premiership campaign after 15 years out of the top flight.

This Sunday, we welcome Dundee United to The Falkirk Stadium for our second flag day in as many years, and it’s live on Sky Sports!

A five-year stint in League 1, followed by a season in the Championship culminated in The Bairns winning back-to-back titles. John McGlynn and Paul Smith finally led us out of League 1 with a historic invincible season in 2023/24, before continuing that form into the Championship and taking the second tier by storm.

Our first Premiership season in 15 years begins against a side who know a thing or two about getting up to the Premiership and staying up, a side who we have emerged victorious against in our previous two meetings.

The Falkirk Stadium was the setting for both, with Falkirk winning a famous victory against then Championship Dundee United in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup. A convincing four-nil win saw the men in navy blue progress to the semis.

The most recent meeting saw the two sides face off in the group stage of the Premier Sports Cup in the lead up to the 2024/25 season, Dylan Tait and Ross MacIver scoring the goals that would seal the two-nil win.

Our opponent’s competitive season began last Thursday when they hosted Luxembourgish side FC UNA Strassen in the UEFA Conference League play-offs. The Terrors go into Thursday’s away leg with the advantage, following Zachary Sapsford’s strike in the 47th minute.

Meanwhile, The Bairns have enjoyed a successful start to competitive football, topping Group A in Premier Sports Cup unbeaten. Convincing wins against Brechin City, Queen’s Park, and The Spartans saw us progress to the last 16, where we will face Celtic away from home next month.
