Up next for The Bairns is our rescheduled fixture against Hibernian, who we host at The Falkirk Stadium next Tuesday in the William Hill Premiership.
Kick-off is at 7:45pm, Tuesday 23rd September. It’s another weekend without a game for the team, who have been preparing for our rearranged game against Hibernian in five days time.
It’ll be back-to-back home games for The Bairns, following last weekend’s defeat to St Mirren. It was a hard fought match against The Buddies, but The Bairns went toe-to-toe with them for much of the game. Falkirk created a number of good chances, but failed to take the lead, with both teams going into the break level.
The breakthrough came in the 64th minute, and it was an unlucky goal for Falkirk to concede, as Declan John’s free-kick took a wicked deflection off the wall. The goal lit a fire under the away team, who went on to dominate the following 15 minutes. Their dominance resulted in a second goal with nine minutes remaining on the clock. Mikael Mandron was the scorer, rising unmarked to meet John’s cross to head the ball into the net.
Falkirk fought back, desperately trying to spark a comeback. They managed to get a goal back in the 88th minute, when Leon McCann clipped a perfect cross into Brian Graham, who headed the ball into the top corner. The Bairns pushed hard, but were unable to find an equaliser, falling to a second league defeat of the season.
Falkirk currently sit ninth in the table, with four points. It’s a tight league as it stands, and a win on Tuesday could send us third, replacing Tuesday’s opponents.
Hibs currently occupy third place, but haven’t won a league match since the opening day when they beat Dundee by two goals to one. Their last three games in the Premiership have been draws, the most recent being a six-goal thriller against Dundee United last weekend.
