UP NEXT: RANGERS (A)

Up next for The Bairns is the final league game before the split as we host Rangers at The Falkirk Stadium on Sunday.

Falkirk head into the final game before the split after securing top six last weekend. The squad came back refreshed after the international break and were aiming for a second win at Fir Park this season to guarantee a place in the top six.

They couldn’t have gotten off to a better start, with in-form Barney Stewart heading home Calvin Miller’s free kick in the third minute. It was the striker’s sixth goal in five games, and Calvin Miller’s eighth assist of the season. The Bairns enjoyed an excellent half-hour of being on top, but couldn’t add to their lead before the hosts levelled the scores in the 34th minute when a corner kick ended up falling for Elliot Watt, who rifled a volley past Scott Bain from just outside the box.

It looked like the two sides would go into the break level, until Falkirk took full advantage of Motherwell’s tactic of playing dangerously out from the back. Our attackers got their press spot on, with Calvin Miller eventually getting a foot on the ball in a tussle with the goalkeeper, setting up Ben Broggio to tap into an empty net in the 45th minute.

It was an exciting back and forth half of football and the second half was no different. The Bairns were on top, and looked more likely to score, which they eventually did in the 62nd minute when Filip Lissah was hauled to the ground during a corner kick. Calvin Miller stepped up to take the penalty and calmly slotted past Ward in the Motherwell goal for his 17th goal involvement this season. Motherwell threw men forward, looking for a way back into the game, and managed to get a consolation in the fourth minute of injury time. It was great play as Elijah Just picked up the ball in midfield and played Maswanhise through one-on-one, with the Zimbabwean making no mistake.

Our visitors this Sunday are on a brilliant run of form at the moment. Danny Rohl’s side are undefeated in 15 league games, with their last loss coming at Tynecastle back in December. They hosted Dundee United last Saturday, with a win putting them top of the table before Hearts played on the Sunday.

It was an exciting match-up at Ibrox with goals from Ryan Naderi, Dujon Sterling, and Amar Fatah seeing the hosts go into the break a goal to the good. Three more goals were in store in the second half. Thelo Aasgaard and Bojan Miovski goals either side of a Zac Sapsford strike saw the game finish 4-2 as Rangers, after Sunday’s results, climb to within a point of league leaders Hearts.
